I have always had an interest in being a hair stylist. When I was a freshman in high school my mom, who was a hair stylist, taught me how to highlight her hair. I will never forget her wrapping that foil over the metal end of her comb and placing the hair over the foil. She explained that I needed to get that bleach as close as I could without touching her scalp. She insisted that it needed to look like it grew out of her scalp and that she was having me do it because the girls she worked with could not do it like this. I did my mom's hair in our kitchen for a long time. My grandmother got wind of child labor in the kitchen and insisted I start rolling her perms. She said why am I breaking my arms trying to roll my own perm if you could do it. Hahahaha I was weaving hair not perming it. Yep, you guessed it I started perming my grandma's hair. That grew to me coloring and cutting my girlfriends hair through high school. I will never forget cutting my girlfriend Amanda's hair, it was extremely curly. That curly hair just got shorter and shorter. I did not know how hard cutting curly hair was and yes, she forgave me. I remember watching hair stylist through the shop windows just thinking how cool they were, how cool their job was, how fun. I knew I wanted to be one of those cool girls, hahaha. I knew what I was going to do with my life; be a cool hair stylist.
Instead, I got pregnant with my first child at age 17 and had to finish school and get straight to work. There was no way to work full time and go to cosmetology school. I did random work and worked with special ed for 7 years. For the last 3 years in that career, I began going to community college. I was able to work full time, take a few classes a week and still be a mom to my two children. That continued for a few years while I bounced back and forth on what I really wanted my major to be, what I wanted to do with my life. It finally hit me that I could not make up my mind because what I wanted to be could not be taught at community college.
I quit my job at the count, worked nights form 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and went to cosmetology school from 8-5. That was a rough ride on little sleep, but I did it!! And I am just as thrilled and excited at what I do as the day I walked into Prater Way beauty school. I still take between 2-5 classes a year. I took a weeklong Vidal Sassoon Academy course in S.F. I am hoping to take the next class sometime soon. I love education and I love learning anything that can make me a better artist for my clients. I have clients that have been with me for 14 plus years and I still try to impress them, like the first time they sat in my chair. I strive to be the best and give my clients the best! I am certified in lash extensions through Borbeleta for 6 years now. I love doing lashes, I love the instant gratification. Lashes make us feel beautiful instantly. I get excited every time AND SO DO THEY!!! I have excellent retention with my lashes and I am100% dedicated to giving you the best lashes ever!
I now have 5 children and next to the love and commitment to them, is to my clients. I love the flexibility my career gives me so that I am able to attend school functions and my children's sports. There is not anything in this world that could give me as much joy and love as what my children give me. They are my everything! I have a wonderful, supportive husband that is always pushing me to do my best and be my best. He is my best friend, and I am lucky to have him. Somehow in the craziness of this house, I find a way to balance my career and my family. Most of my free time is spent with my family and my hobbies are : laundry, grocery shopping, house cleaning and Netflix. hahaha I actually enjoy working out and I coach cheer for Pop Warner. I love to have a good time, relax and hang out with family and friends.
